Aboriginal Family Wellbeing and Violence Prevention Worker
Are you passionate about promoting wellbeing and addressing family violence within Aboriginal communities? We are seeking 2x dedicated Aboriginal Family Wellbeing & Violence Prevention Workers to join our team. In this crucial role, you will focus on preventing and responding to violence, abuse, and neglect experienced by Aboriginal people, working closely with the Aboriginal community, local agencies, and services.
As an AFWVP Worker, you will deliver localized, holistic, culturally safe, and trauma-informed support to victims, children, young people, and individuals—especially men—who use violence. Your work will be tailored to the specific needs of the Tamworth and Gunnedah LGA areas, with a strong emphasis on family support, community development, and early intervention. Depending on local requirements and available services, your role may prioritize prevention, recovery, and community development over direct counseling.

Capability Requirements
- Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
- Hold or willing to complete Certificate IV in Aboriginal Family Violence Work (ECAV) training which involves being away for training over a 12 month period 6 times for one week.
- Effective communication skills with partners on a local and state level.
- Working knowledge of Key NSW Health policy areas including Aboriginal Family Violence Strategy
- Working knowledge of the impact of domestic violence and family violence on families and in Aboriginal communities and broader community.
- Knowledge of confidentiality, documentation and information management; relevant legislation; ethics and duty of care; and mandatory reporting requirements for the role.
- Understanding of how the AFWVP workers role contributes to maintaining a Child Safe environment.
- Current unrestricted NSW Drivers License and willingness to travel in the course of employment.
- Current Criminal History check.
- Current Working with Children check (WWCC).
