Tamworth | Full-Time | 3-year Contract
Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Service – Aboriginal Corporation (TAMS-AC) is seeking a dedicated Aboriginal Cancer Care Coordinator to provide culturally safe, holistic support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families throughout the cancer journey.
This is a rewarding opportunity to join a growing Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation and work alongside a multidisciplinary team to ensure care is accessible, respectful, and patient-centred.
Key Responsibilities
- Support patients and families in navigating the cancer care system.
- Provide cultural advocacy, ensuring services are safe and appropriate.
- Assist families with emotional, social, and practical needs.
- Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, oncologists, allied health, and community programs.
- Build strong partnerships with hospitals, cancer services, and community members.
- Contribute to community education, prevention, and awareness activities.
About You
- Strong understanding of the cultural, social, and health needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Experience in Aboriginal health or advocacy roles.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex health information simply and respectfully.
- Organised, adaptable, and confident managing competing priorities.
- Collaborative, with experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in cancer care is highly regarded, but not essential.
- This role may suit a Registered Nurse (RN), Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP), or Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW).
