About the role

We’re seeking a Physiotherapist & Clinical Educator to deliver culturally safe, evidence-based physiotherapy services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients across the lifespan.

This is a unique opportunity to combine clinical practice with education and mentoring, supporting physiotherapy students undertaking rural clinical placements in partnership with the University of Newcastle Department of Rural Health.

You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary primary health care team, supporting clients with mobility, function, pain management, rehabilitation, chronic disease management and prevention-focused care — while contributing to service development and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive physiotherapy assessment, treatment and management for clients with acute, chronic and complex conditions

• Deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed care in partnership with Aboriginal Health Workers/Practitioners and the broader team

• Develop and implement individualised treatment plans (rehabilitation, exercise prescription, pain management and functional mobility programs)

• Support chronic disease management across musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory conditions

• Participate in multidisciplinary case conferencing, care planning and coordinated care with internal teams and external providers

• Contribute to health promotion, education and injury prevention initiatives

• Supervise, mentor and assess physiotherapy students during rural clinical placements

• Provide student orientation, clinical teaching, feedback and evaluation

• Maintain accurate, timely and confidential clinical documentation in line with professional and legislative standards

• Participate in quality improvement, service development and evaluation activities

• Comply with clinical governance, risk management and WHS requirements

• Maintain ongoing professional development and cultural capability learning

About you

Essential

• Bachelor of Physiotherapy

• Current AHPRA registration as a Physiotherapist

• Minimum 3 years’ relevant post-graduate experience

• Experience working with First Nations communities and a commitment to culturally safe care Knowledge of rural and remote health issues

• Experience in teaching/supervising students (or strong capability and willingness to develop in this area)

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team

• Current driver licence

• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Medicare Provider Number for approved practice location(s) for the duration of employment
