Make a meaningful difference in the lives of families impacted by AOD use
We are seeking a passionate and culturally responsive Family Support Worker to join our expanding AOD program, focused on supporting the families, carers and friends of people using alcohol and other drugs (AOD). This role will help improve treatment outcomes and build stronger support systems in community.
About the Role
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver trauma-informed, family-inclusive, and culturally appropriate psychosocial support services to those affected by a loved one’s AOD use, across Tamworth LGA, Gunnedah and the Liverpool Plains.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide intake, screening and psychosocial assessments for family members, carers and friends
- Deliver one-on-one or group-based counselling and care planning
- Collaborate with clients to develop goals, improve coping strategies and strengthen family roles
- Work closely with clinical, AOD and community teams to coordinate care and support referrals
- Offer education, harm minimisation advice and ongoing care planning
- Contribute to a holistic model of care across mental health, social, legal and wellbeing needs
About You
- Experience in AOD, mental health, family support or related fields
- Excellent communication, assessment and care planning skills
- Strong understanding of the role families and carers play in AOD treatment and recovery
- Culturally aware, community-connected and passionate about empowering others
- Relevant Tertiary Qualification (or willingness to obtain)
- Current driver’s licence, WWCC and Police Check (or ability to obtain)
