Social Worker


Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Service – Aboriginal Corporation (TAMS-AC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation providing culturally safe, holistic primary health care to community across the New England North West of NSW.
We are seeking a motivated, community-focused Social Worker to join our Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) team and provide culturally safe, trauma-informed support to clients and families.
What you’ll do
Provide culturally safe case management, psychosocial assessments, and support planning
Deliver trauma-informed counselling within scope and program requirements
Coordinate care with internal teams and external service providers, including outreach and follow-up
Maintain high-quality clinical notes and accurate record keeping
Contribute to community wellbeing initiatives and culturally informed healing activities
Uphold confidentiality, professional boundaries, cultural safety, and TAMS-AC policies
What we’re looking for
Essential
Bachelor of Social Work (required)
Accredited and recognised with the Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (ARCAP) (required)
Demonstrated capacity to provide trauma-informed, client-centred counselling
Understanding of Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) frameworks in Aboriginal health
Demonstrated ethical and culturally appropriate practice
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Effective time management and ability to prioritise workload
Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) (required)
Current National Police History Check (required)
Desirable
Experience working in an Aboriginal Medical Service and/or primary health care setting
Knowledge of local services and referral pathways
Strong computer literacy and clinical record keeping skills
Current Australian Driver Licence
Lived experience or deep understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
