We are seeking a passionate and culturally responsive Family Support Worker to join our expanding AOD program, focused on supporting the families, carers and friends of people using alcohol and other drugs (AOD). This role will help improve treatment outcomes and build stronger support systems in community.
Would suit someone with a background in Case work, Mental Health Support worker or Care Coordinator. This role involves having a sound knowledge of information and health services for peoples and their family in the areas of Tamworth, Quirindi and surrounds. Strong community service connections a bonus.
About the Role
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver trauma-informed, family-inclusive, and culturally appropriate psychosocial support services to those affected by a loved one’s AOD use, across local LGA, based in Quirindi .
Key responsibilities:
Provide non-judgmental support to empower clients in achieving confidence, autonomy and independence.
Professional and appropriate communication skills with stakeholders from vary demographic backgrounds
Ability to identify the need for referral to specialised services and supports.
The ability to professionally network and provide accurate information regarding the program aims and purpose to potential referrers.
Provide intake, screening and psychosocial assessments for family members, carers and friends
Reporting daily to the Team Leader at the Quirindi office and working closely with ATOD Support Worker in the Tamworth office
Deliver one-on-one or group-based counselling and care planning
Collaborate with clients to develop goals, improve coping strategies and strengthen family roles
Work closely with clinical, AOD and community teams to coordinate care and support referrals
Offer education, harm minimisation advice and ongoing care planning
Contribute to a holistic model of care across mental health, social, legal and wellbeing needs
About You
Experience in AOD, mental health, family support or related fields
Excellent communication, assessment and care planning skills
Ability to keep accurate notes, documentation while following clinical governance around Privacy and Confidentiality.
To be open to mentoring and continuous learning in an ever changing environment
Strong understanding of the role families and carers play in AOD treatment and recovery
Culturally aware, community-connected and passionate about empowering others
Relevant Tertiary Qualification (or willingness to obtain)
Current driver’s licence, WWCC and Police Check (or ability to obtain)
