Social Worker


Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Service-Aboriginal Corporation (TAMS-AC) is seeking to employ a highly motivated, community focused Social Worker.
TAMS-AC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service providing culturally appropriate preventive primary health care services, that sits in the heart of the New England North West of NSW. TAMS-AC is staffed with GP's, Registered Nurses, Aboriginal Health Workers and Practitioners, Mental Health Workers, Alcohol Tobacco & Other Drugs Support Team and Outreach Workers as well as onsite access to vast range of specialist medical services.
Applicants are preferred to have counselling, communication and interpersonal skills, and an interest in working in an Aboriginal Medical Service.
What You’ll Do
We are looking for a motivated team member to provide culturally safe case management and wellbeing support within our Social Emotional Wellbeing team. The role includes client assessments, support planning, outreach, coordinated care with service providers, and accurate record keeping. You will also assist with community wellbeing initiatives and cultural healing activities while upholding cultural safety, confidentiality, and TAMS AC policies.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
1. Certificate IV in social work, community services or related field, or working towards, or equivalent work experience
2. Demonstrates capacity to provide Trauma-informed, client centred counselling
3. Understanding of the social and emotional wellbeing framework in Aboriginal health.
4. Demonstrates ethical and culturally appropriate practices
5. Strong communication and relationship building skills with clients, families and community.
6. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
7. Manages time effectively, and prioritises appropriately
7. Current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
8. Current National Police History Check
Desirable:
1. Computer literacy
2. Accredited mental health social worker/willingness to get accredited
3. Current Australian driver's licence
4. Experience working in an Aboriginal or primary health care setting
5. Lived experience or deep understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torre Strait Islander communities.
6. Knowledge of local community services and referral pathways.
